ABOUT US
Established in 2017 in Mamelodi, Patch-Up South Africa is a non-profit organization committed to supporting vulnerable people and communities in building self-sustainable livelihoods. The organization began with a single program focused on food security, targeting homeless camps in the area. As we worked closely with homeless individuals, we discovered that the root causes of their challenges were trauma, unemployment, and lack of access to healthcare.
Over the years, this understanding shaped our theory of change, leading to the introduction of two additional programs — Healthcare and E-Sustainability — with a strong focus on prevention and long-term resilience. Today, Patch-Up South Africa supports beneficiaries across the Gauteng Province, helping them rebuild their lives through a holistic and sustainable approach.

TARGET GROUPS
Our mission at Patch-Up South Africa is to serve marginalized communities, including victims and survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), sex workers, people who use drugs, adolescents and unemployed youth. These groups have been selected as our primary focus due to the unique and related challenges they face, which impede their ability to lead self-sustainable lives.
PEOPLE WHO USE DRUGS & SEX WORKERS
GBVF VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS
MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES
ADOLESCENT YOUNG PEOPLE
UNEMPLOYED YOUTH
The communities we serve are plagued by drug and substance abuse, violence, broken family structures, and poverty. These issues are deeply intertwined, creating a cycle that is difficult to break without targeted interventions. In particular, drug and substance abuse are rampant, not only among adults but increasingly among adolescents in schools. Surveys have shown a troubling rise in irresponsible sexual activities among the youth, further complicating their already precarious situations.

Gender-based violence and the marginalization of sex workers and people using drugs contribute significantly to the instability within these communities. Victims and survivors of GBV often struggle with trauma and limited access to resources, making it challenging to regain their footing and achieve economic independence. Sex workers, too, face severe social stigma, health risks, and legal challenges that hinder their ability to transition into safer and more sustainable livelihoods.

By focusing on Food Security, Health Care and E-Sustainability programs, we aim to create a holistic support system that addresses the root causes of the challenges faced by our target groups. Our goal is to lead these communities toward self-sustainability, fostering resilience and the ability to thrive independently. Through our initiatives, we hope to catalyze positive transformation and pave the way for a brighter future for all those we serve.
